Are you about to restore a tooth with a dental inlay or dental onlay? If so, you’re on the right track toward a healthy and functional tooth once again! Our dentist, Dr. Jun H Chung, is happy to provide these restorations because they are safe, effective, and reliable. They also provide natural-looking results! Our dental team is happy to tell you more about these restorations by sharing some details.

A dental inlay is used to repair a small surface on the top of the tooth. The surface typically lies between the cusps (rounded edges). A dental onlay is used to repair more of the tooth, like the entire tooth’s chewing surface. It can even repair the tooth edges if necessary. This restoration can sometimes be known as a partial crown. Inlays and onlays are needed when an old filling needs to be removed or replaced or when tooth decay is too extensive for a dental filling but not serious enough for a dental crown.

When your dentist restores your tooth with one of these restorations, he will begin by preparing the tooth and then taking impressions. Those impressions will be sent to a dental lab where your restoration will be created by lab technicians. Once it is completed, it will be sent to our clinic where your dentist will bond it to the tooth.
