As hard as tooth enamel is, there are still several things that can chip it. This could be as traumatic as a blow to the face or as innocuous as grinding your teeth at night on a regular basis. Minor chips can often be repaired with a simple filling. If a tooth is badly chipped or already has been repaired by a previous filling, your dentist, Dr. Jun H Chung, might recommend repairing the chipped tooth with a dental crown in Leesburg, Virginia.
Your dentist will numb the area and use a drill to remove all the tooth enamel. This leaves behind an abutment containing the dentin, pulp, and root of the tooth.
Your dentist will then form a detailed impression of the area to serve as a guide for a dental lab where your new crown will be custom made. At the end of the appointment, a temporary crown will be secured over the abutment to protect it.
Once the dental lab technician has completed your crown, we will call you back in to have the temporary crown removed and the new crown cemented into place.
